FAQ

How many countries does TaxAtlas track?

+

TaxAtlas publishes tax data for 53 countries and territories, grouped here by region. Each has a dedicated page with personal and corporate tax rates, residency rules, and cited sources.

What is the difference between zero-tax, territorial and low-rate countries?

+

"Zero Tax" (19 jurisdictions) means 0% personal income tax. "Territorial" (11) means only locally-sourced income is taxed, so foreign income is typically exempt. "Low Rate" (16) covers jurisdictions with a non-zero but comparatively low headline personal tax rate. "Special Regime" (8) marks countries with a preferential tax programme for qualifying newcomers, on top of their standard rates. A country can carry more than one tag.

What do the Personal Tax Score and Business Tax Score mean?

+

Each country gets two 0โ€“100 editorial scores: Personal Tax Score reflects how favourable the personal income tax system is overall (rate, residency rules, foreign-income treatment, wealth and inheritance tax), and Business Tax Score does the same for corporate tax, withholding and compliance. Scores of 90+ are labelled "Extremely Tax Friendly", 80โ€“89 "Very Tax Friendly", down to under 50 "High Tax". These are composite research scores, not an official index.

How often is the tax data updated?

+

Every country page shows a "Last verified" date and lists the government, Big Four or OECD sources behind its figures. Corrections and law changes are logged on the tax changes page as they are verified, rather than on a fixed schedule.

Can I compare countries side by side?

+

Yes. Use the comparison tool to put any two or more jurisdictions head to head, or the 2026 cheat sheet for a single-page view of every jurisdiction at once.
